With all that is happening today, I would be concerned about opening a door at that time without knowing who was on the other side. The crime rate is up because the economy is down and sometimes desperate people do stupid things. I don't mean you or the neighbor but we have just got to be cautious. Send over the jam or invite her over for coffee and let her know you really are a very nice person. Who knows? Maybe she quilts or at least is interested in learning. You could make a friend.
