I wouldn't use adhesive batting; lots of reports of problems with it. I love the adhesive spray, but it seems as if brand matters. 505 is the best brand to use.
What makes the quilt soft and cuddly is the batting you choose. If you like a high loft, my recommendation is Hobbs 80/20. My personal favorite is Mountain Mist Blue Ribbon 100% cotton, but it is a very traditional batting that requires close quilting. I love that it gets softer and softer with every washing, and that the quilt is thin enough to have a very easy drape.
