I'm the one with the Little Black Sambo book. Like I said, I see nothing wrong with the book. I like it, my children like it and when/if I have grandchildren, I will read the book to them. I also have ALL of the Song of the South movies/videos, along with Uncle Remus books. I love them and so do my girls. Again, I see nothing wrong with it. They are stories, nothing more. People have to try and be unkind about alot of things. If anyone doesn't like what I say or do, in the privacy of MY home, then too bad! It's MY home and I will do as I please!
I don't think I sent out any "smart or unkind" remarks about anything. I just stated that I had the book. Things we ALL have from out childhood that is now banned is a part of history. I take offense in people telling me I DO NOT know what prejudice is. I DO! My child is bi-racial. Try being a white woman moving to the south and being told that your child is a "half-breed". Not a nice thing to hear. When I would hear things like that about my child, it would tear me up inside. I finally got smart and decided to NOT listen to those people.
I don't teach my children prejudice and am angered by those that DO teach their children prejudice.
My point is....why not just ban everything from everyone? There is always something in the world that is going to anger one group of people or another.
Ok, nuff said.......I'm getting mad and I don't want to upset anyone. Not my intention. I just take offense to being told I was being UNKIND and sending out SMART remarks.
