To me, that floral border lets the eye spill off the quilt top because it is so busy. A more solid color, like the purple you showed, would "corral" the prints in the top and keep the eye focused on the interior where you'd notice the construction, different fabrics, etc. When I look at that floral border, my mind just goes scattered on overload kind of because there is a lot going on with it when that is added. Sometimes, less is more, as they say. :D
