This is the kind of quilt I would put in my car to use if it gets cold, or if your car 'dies' and you need it for warmth.
Or keep it for a quilt for the park, beach, etc.
I make scrappy string quilts exactly for the purposes above to give to my kids. They are nice and big and if something spills on it, most likely it isn't noticeable and can be laundered. The grand kids love em.
If your MIL comes to visit and you have prior notice, just fold it up, maybe drape it over some furniture or railing so that she can see it.
