A walking foot really isn't suitable to free motion quilting. The walking foot has two "feet/prongs" that keep the fabric always stabilized between the foot and feed dogs.
In order to Free motion quilt, it is best to purchase a darning/embroidery foot that fits your machine (very inexpensive), drop your feed dogs, make sure you lower the foot down, even though it doesn't actually touch the fabric. <wave>
