I may put flannel on the back of his next one and use the wool batting that sounds like a great idea!! I get too many good ideas on here!!! Love it ladies thanks for the suggestions.
Be care with the wool batting. When washing the quilt some times the batting will shrink more than the quilt leaving a messy looking quilt.
