If the machine is in a cabinet, you might be able to rig the pedal to work as a knee driven machine. I learned on an old Montgomery Ward knee driven. Then when I bought my new machine, I thought that was what the knee bar was for---NOT! It took me a couple tries to figure out what it's used for now-a-days and I like it but I still miss the old Monkey Ward machine.
