I do roughly the same when I hand quilt them, but not round each individual patch, I do it round the flower, and round the centre patch.
I have one to machine quilt waiting in the wings, and I intend to do a spiral in the centre of the patch, then a loop in each patch that makes up the flower. (FMQ).
