The town was named after 2 families in the late 1800's; the Flakes who came to settle here and a man named Erastus Snow who came to dedicate the land for these Latter Day Saint settlers - thus the name Snowflake. We do get a little snow here as we are approx a mile above sea level on a desert plateau.
