When in high school I never could understand why I had to take geometry and when I would ever use it. Well that's because I didn't know I'd end up a quilter and use it all the time.
Recently, my former geometry teacher came into the office and I was able to thank him--he laughed and appreciated my thanks. Says he's asked that question all the time: why do I need to know geometry?
