I also tape the backing to the table (or floor - depending on how big it is!) I've had good success so far and I don't even use a walking foot. I read a hint somewhere to put a marble under the backing and push it around as you're pinning. I allows the backing to be pulled up just a little off of the table and makes for easier pinning and not scratching up your table.

I love the idea of using the story book panels. Very creative. I also love the Abe quilt too. Very nice.
