That's what my folks called them, too. They also grew a yellow pepper they called "Hungarian half-hots". Sometimes they could be pretty hot!My mom used ground pork in her stuffed cabbage/peppers in stead of beef. She would mix the pork, rice and onions into a meatloaf-like mixture then stuff it uncooked into the peppers or cabbage. Then they were put into the big soup kettle, covered with tomato sauce(that she canned) and a jar of saurkraut was put on top. It would sit and simmer all day. Usually served with mashed potatoes.
