Long story short...yes, the needle is very sharp, and someone on the board said to use your own spit the remove blood from a quilt...it works!
Finger will be OK in a few days...so will the quilt...
My mum told me that trick years ago, she said that it has to with the enzymes in our spit that help remove the blood from the fabric. I do it all the time both the needle and the blood. Not always the machine needle. I am glad your quilt is alright.
