I ended up with a requirement of 2-1/3 yards.
Converting all the fractions to 12ths -
3/12 + 8/12 + 9/12 + 8/12 = 28/12 = 2-1/3
If you are a very beginner - I think the project would be a lot easier if you used the yardages suggested.
It sounds like you have approximately 1-3/4 yards to work with - along with not having enough fabric - the directions are calling for width of fabric cutting.
So - the short answer is "no" - the amount of fabric you have will not be enough to make that particular runner.
