I would not use a high loft batting - you don't want your water glass tipping over!!
I use W&N for almost anything, but I also use a couple of layers of flannel for some projects - when I can find them cheap at a thrift store.
A word on bamboo batting - it sews up great but do not use it for baby blankets - it has a faster burn time than most other battings. (We had a speaker at our guild who did burn tests on all battings in order to put together a comprehensive comparison of what's on the market.)
