I used Insulbrite & batting for the first . When I ran out of Insulbrite, I treated myself to a new ironing bd cover & cut up the old one for the pickle jars! I used 2 layers of the ironing bd stuff & tested the quilted piece by holding against a hot iron. If you read the potholder threrad there are a lot of suggestions, including foil.
