I agree, keep it, make another for the gift.

I firmly believe our quilts (mine, anyway) have spirits of their own. Mine usually let me know when they are done, even if it hasn't grown to the point I was planning; or if they don't like the border fabrics I chose; or if the setting needs to be changed when the blocks go up on the design wall.

Sometimes mine are downright pushy and rude and let me know they really don't enjoy being around "those" fabrics. But they redeem themselves when they let me know they love me so much they really want to stay home with ME! One in particular loudly objected to being sold! It's still with me, too, even after that temptation, LOL :D
