I had a VERY hard time letting my first commission quilt go. Since I was charging a LOT of money for it, I was extra careful with the construction and it was my best work to date (and got praise from my long-armer and she doesn't give that out lightly), and it turned out really beautiful...
But the recipient (it was a surprise birthday present for someone) even 3 years later, still considers it a "work of art" and they are so happy to have it, I stopped "missing" the quilt.
And I'm going to be making another one in the same pattern for my niece for her wedding next spring.
