I seem to remember from my Boy Scout days that the real flag was never supposed to be used for a "common" use, such as a garment or a blanket. These items will be handled disrespectfully (wadded up in the laundry, spread out on the ground, etc). That's why you see stars and stripes on clothing and such that are representative of the flag without actually being a flag. I recommend you keep the image as is. You are so right about that wesing. I was thinking of that same idea too. It would be considered disrespectful to use a flag as a quilt. However, this will be a wall hanging and I will actually leave it as is, and simply let it go. This wallhanging was meant to represent the USA and for all our fallen heros from 9/11. I am going to put a dedication in all 4 corners when its done.
