Very interesting. If you look at your blocks through green and red light filters you will see the values very differently. I noticed the pattern had a dark border and light center. I think if you were to arrange the colors differently, it might give the feeling of the pattern. For example using a green filter,the darkest value is in the second from the outside and there is no difference between the second and the third.
