If you use Warm n Natural batting, that distance for quilting would be fine. For any other type of batting, check the package or the plastic insert for it; that will tell you how far apart quilting lines need to be for that batting. It can range from 2" to 12" or so depending on the batting.

Be sure to use a walking foot for SID. Also, I recommend heavily starching the backing fabric before layering to help prevent puckers where lines cross.
