I doubt you are making a 100% detailed accurate precision replica of Old Glory, down to the regulation size of stars and what not.
You've already said you are making an adaptation of the Spirit of the quilt, not a Flag, and that you want fewer than 50 stars, and that you want it to fit a Twin bed, which is not Regulation Old Glory.
I have made just such a quilt myself, and the kid who used it is now grown, still has it and loves it and has it hanging on a wall.
Lots of folk art people make representations of the Flag in prim and not-so-prim styles.
