I use Thread Heaven and always thread my needle with the end that comes off the spool and I put my thumb on the spot where the thread goes into the binding. A little old lady told me to do that years and years ago and it does help stop the tangling.
I've heard this before but I don't understand it: why do you thread the end that comes off the spool?
Because of the way thread is twisted it cuts down on the tangles.
