Check the pattern magazines like McCall's & Simplicity. They have home decorating patterns. Many are so simple that you can do it without the pattern. I've made many valances and panels over the years and most are pretty easy. The last one I made is an idea from a home dec pattern, but I made my own pattern. It's a pleated swag style and is mounted to a 1x2 board that sits on brackets over the window. I love it and it looks very custom
