Normally, I do fussy cut my batiks to create shadows and light sources, but how serendipitous that these particular "marble-y" fabrics were shaded and mottled enough that I could cut anywhere and achieve the effect I was looking for. The gold and copper fabric in the background and borders even had golden veins running rampant through it! All I had to do was thread paint over it here and there for enhancement.
