Hi, I think my season has come to a close. We had 6 hummingbirds the beginning of last week. We have 2 today. Supposed to be very cold again tonight so I expect them to leave in a day or so. I will keep my feeders out through this week at least.
I started this post July 27th and had a few birds then.
I started counting my sugar and gallons fed September 1.
September 1st through September 30th, 2010:
I used 99 lbs of sugar and fed 58 gallons of sugar/water.
In addition, I remember buying 45 lbs of sugar before September. It could have been more but I didn't want to go through grocery receipts. So I know I fed these birds at least 144 lbs of sugar the 2010 season.
I have really enjoyed doing this post and want to thank everyone again for their input and photos. We'll do it again next year. Anyone who is still getting hummingbirds is welcome to keep this post going if they want to.
