I have only done one but it was miscut as well, I just put it together as best as I could and it turned out okay, from a galloping horse. I agree, the kids won't see it or care, they'll just like the colors and the prints and knowing that there are people who care.

The one I got had precut border strips, large squares and 4 patch strips to be put together. I just got another in and it is the same way.
