Is it a lemon cucumber? It could be a cross, these things seem to cross easily, depending on what pollen is swept in with the wind.

Lots of things like this have been cultivated just for fun, and one day a piece of pollen comes in and makes a brand new, fabulous tasting new fruit or veggie, and you can sell it to a nursery or sell the fruit yourself. Or most of the time you simply get a pretty thingey. Might be worth while hanging it up in a cool shady place and seeing what it looks and sounds like when dry. Might be a gourd or one parent might be one.

Do like the experts and check out the leaves and stems. In fact, if you take it to show the county guy, take part of the plant with you. That will make it much easier to identify.
