Sometimes a border of two fabrics that complement the quilt or were used in the quilt works really well. Top and one side of one fabric and other side and bottom of the other fabric.
Also, if you have just enough for the exact width and length of the main portion of the quilt, cornerstones can be used to complete the quilt.
