Don't be afraid to buy ANY fabric you like. That's one of the nice things about fat quarters. You can experiment and see how the fabrics act. Actual quilt stores often cut their own fat quarters. So if you really like a fabric after you use it you have a chance to go back and get more of it. Also by trying out the different fabrics you get a feel for what you like and what feels better. I love fat quarters.
And having said that. I just went back to JoAnn's and bought 7 yards of a fabric I liked(not originally a fat quarter) by Alexander Henry called "Everglades" (could have been called rainbow everglades). A 50% coupon let me get it for $4.50 a yrd instead of $9.
