I bought two featherweights in good shape this summer from an estate clear-out. The current owner had no clue what she had but even I was amazed at the price she asked - $30 each! I found another at a garage sale and this owner wanted $300 and there was no case, instruction book or attachments. If you really want it and it's in good condition, it's not ridiculous but if you're patient you may do better. I have hunted for featherweights for years and sometimes it's a long time before I find any and then two or three may pop up in a relatively short time. They are sometimes listed for sale as antique or Vintage Singers so don't forget to check all the sewing machine ads as you hunt for your special machine.
