You will have to lighten the pressure on the presser foot, and probably ease up on your top tension, and you may have to adjust the bobbin tension, but I'm here to tell you that it can be done. I think you could do the same on the 99.
BTW, I do have the feed dog cover, and I prefer to work without it.
