This 15-88 actually has a a stitch regulator that goes from 30 to 6. I am not sure if I should have it at either end? Would that help my stitch?

Nancy, your stitch regulator, stitch length, does not need to be set since you have lowered the feed-dogs. You will have to practice with movement of hands and the speed with which you treadle until you get a stitch that you like. My Halloween quilt has stitches that are very close together since I was going for a natural, uneven spider-web thread look and not the cutesy, even stitch length look. Have fun practicing!
