Nancy, your stitch regulator, stitch length, does not need to be set since you have lowered the feed-dogs. You will have to practice with movement of hands and the speed with which you treadle until you get a stitch that you like. My Halloween quilt has stitches that are very close together since I was going for a natural, uneven spider-web thread look and not the cutesy, even stitch length look. Have fun practicing! I would love to see your work too.
