Please don't put yourself down. I have always wanted to try this pattern and have never dared and I've been quilting for over 20 years! Please tell us you finished it. Like all the others said, just trim both long sides to measure the same and quilt and bind it--no one will be the wiser. show us your finished project. This is how we learn to fix things!
