I made this little Christmas ornament in school when I was 5. My mom loved it and still has it. We did it with plastic eggs that panty hose used to come in but I don't know if they are still made anymore. You could use styrofoam balls. Anyway, cut colored tissue into little squares. Thin out some Elmers glue and dip the tissue in it and glue all over the ball. Add a photo and some ribbon to hang.

Here's another one but this one takes a lot more prep work. You will need wooden skewers and the plastic rings that hold six packs. Cut the six pack rings apart into individual rings. Fold them in half so they form curved rings. Poke the skewer through the ring so the plastic on the skewer pointing up (the pointy end of the skewer is the top). Keep adding rings, twisting and overlapping them. You should end up with something that has the shape of a hyacinth. Spray paint the plastic and cover the skewer with floral tape.
