1. it is possible to lose something precious.
2. it is possible to find yourself having no choice but to give up something precious.
3. it is not necessary to read anything negative into the fact that this quilt ended up at the GoodWill. there are so many positive possibilities it would take hours to list them. let us not forget that a donation to GoodWill offers somebody else the chance to own something wonderful (that we feel forced to part with) they could not have afforded otherwise.
4. if you decide to tell your friend what happened you would not need to spin the story in a negative direction. "the funniest and most wonderful thing happened. etc, etc, etc"
you don't need to state or imply any suspicion or belief that the couple did anything wrong or thoughtless by parting company with the quilt. AND you might find out that they've been heartbroken all this time because they lost it and miss it.
there's a reason "spin doctors" make millions. :lol:
