I have hundreds of quilt patterns, and seems to each their own, from simple to very complicated, beauty in the eye of the beholder. As a gift, I'm sure she'll love it because who it came from more than details.
When stitching/quilting, use the thirds rule, divide each block and quilt 1/3 smaller, and 1/3 larger (feathers) and the pieced of the block is 1/3. Then balance, have a variety of stitching, when it's done, 2/3 should 'loft' and 1/3 should be stitched down (smaller, tight, asst stipples).
Again, sharing from a class with Sharon Shamber. But hey, she's won so many awards, her work is amazing, google her, to understand what I'm saying.
