Don't apologize. That is not being ungreatful. A lot of people don't like to be touched.
That is something I won't do to get their attention now. I always say, "Sir", or "Excuse me". I don't know where they've been or what they've experienced. Can't even begin to imagine what some have been through. I won't presume to invade their space. But I think because of my daughter I'm more aware of this.
I actually a "huggy" person but have learned not everyone else is.
