This is one of my biggest peeves about quilt shops. The owners/managers do not keep up with what is new and available . It's not that hard, don't they read a few quilt magazines or google what's new in quilting every once in a while? If I asked for a new quilting item and get a look like you're nuts, I leave and buy it online. Their sale loss.
The cotton batting with no scrim is what you want to use. (quilt shop owners do not know this?) One is called Warm Tater Cotton Batting. Scrim is a thin poly layer over the batting. All cotton batting has it unless stated it has no scrim. I found a bolt of no scrim cotton batting at a Walmart that still has the fabric dept. for $3.97 a yard. It's written on the bolt end, no scrim.

Here is a link to the Tater Batting and free potato bag pattern.
