Here's an idea for you. I never put my ironing board away. The frame part was a huge waste of space so I found a used dresser on craigslist.

I picked the iron up and held it above the dresser and measured how far it was to the dresser top and that gave me the measurement for the riser. The riser is two pieces of MDF and a 4X4 fence post cut into 4 inch sections. It gave me a total rise of about 5.5 inches.
