It is a model 15, made December 10, 1956, in Elizabeth, New Jersey, with 50,000 allotted.

I am Free Motion quilting on a 15-88 right now and I love it. I am actually beginning to enjoy the whole treadling process, but had a hard time learning to treadle. I just went back and forth and broke thread! Now I am FM quilting a Halloween panel and I am basically doing thread play all over the motiff's! So much fun.

I have always heard that the 201 was the best machine Singer ever made, but I don't have one to compare to my 15 so I don't know which would be better!

Nancy,
I have a 201 and 15-90, both in treadles. I have free motioned on both machines, and I prefer free motion quilting on my 15-90 over the 201. The stitches on my 201 are beautiful, but for free motion quilting I like the look from my 15-90. Maybe I just need to play with the 201 more, but I did read on one blog that the person preferred free motion quilting on their 15-91 over their 201-2. This all could be because of the difference in the vertical bobbin vs the horizontal bobbin and the way the thread picks up while sewing.
