At the 2010 International Plowing Match held in St Thomas Ontario, my mom picked up the packet for next year's match Quilt Block Challenge for me.

There are four fabrics, squares about 13". The fabrics are donated by Northcott Silk Inc. The challenge is to make a 12" square, with all four fabrics recognizable and we could add one more fabric if we wanted.

As I was searching tor patterns that I really liked, somehow this morphed in my mind to only having three fabrics. I found a block from quilter's cache that I really liked (believe it or not, "no name block" ). Did a couple of mockups with the fabrics I've been doing my guild's 'block of the month' from, really liked the outcome!

Got ready to make the block with the challenge fabrics, opened the packet ... yup, there are four not three. Sigh... back to the drawing board. Found another block design that caught my eye, did more practice blocks, like this one a lot!

This one is applique, which I don't do much of. One of the lessons learned - trim up the blocks AFTER the applique is on.
