I'm an American expat living in Thailand. I learned to quilt from another expat in '98. Back then, my friend would have to haul fabrics back from Minnesota every summer for our projects. There were a few cottons available then, mostly sarongs. Things have changed a lot as last month, Bangkok hosted it's first official quilt expo. There are now a few quilt shops, but this is how I usually shop for fabric:

I do belong to a quilt group here with an international flavor...who we are changes as many families are here for only a few years. There are only two of us left who were students of Doris, who repatriated back to Minnesota in 2002. We started our charity quilt project while Doris was here in '98. Our group has donated over 800 quilts to deserving Thai children. You can read about it here:
