I never do that, because i'm afraid I will sew the strips together wrong. I haven't had any problem of bowing. I think you get bowing when you sew two stips together, then sew one on to those two, then sew one more, and so on.
I sew sets of two together until I have all them in sets of two. When I get through sewing those, if there is one left (an orphan) I sew it to the last set of two. Then start the next chain piecing with two of the twos togehter until I get to the end.
