The quilt is nearly twin size, so I pinned the backing to the carpet, then continued to make the sandwich. I pinned from the center, smoothing as I went along. Pinned, pinned, pinned, listened to election results, pinned, pinned.
When I took up the quilt it was bunched up on the back! All those pins have to come out, but at least my vote counted!
My next idea is to tape the backing on a tile floor and start the whole thing over. I had thoughts of hand quilting this baby, but it's soooo big a project. Stitching in the ditch will be hard to do only because of the size of the piece. I've bitten off more than I can chew. I won't take it to someone to finish. Not an option.
Any other suggestions?
