An earth blanket was made by some Australian Aboriginal groups to wrap a dead person in. Some bodies were placed in particular trees, others in sacred places.
The blankets were made of possum skin, bark or kangaroo hides. Some were marked, others were left plain.
Now, some decorate the coffin with handprints, symbols, emu feathers etc.
Is your blanket being used this way. I love the feeling of it.
Unfortunately, I was not able to finish it before the little one passed away, so we are embroidering his name on it, and will give it to his parents to decide what to do with it.
I hope it is hung in their church, near the didgeredoo. I will let you all know, and thank you for your kind words. The centre panel took me four - five hours of sewing, but it is spectacular.
