My mother always made the best "receiving blankets" by sewing two layers (1 yard square) of flannel wrong side out. (Using cute baby prints) She would then turn it to the outside by leaving an opening big enough to pull it through to the right side. Slip stitch the opening closed. and tie it with yarn that coordinated with the colors of the pattern. They were the softest, cuddliest baby blankets you could imagine!!
