This is just a suggestion. I haven't used these much but I know what kind of beating things get in a classroom. After you print the image and set the ink. Fuse it to a heavy Wonder Under or Steam a Seam then to your flannel. It will help the pieces stay stiff enough to use and keep from fraying. You might even be able to use felt instead of flannel and solve some of the stiffness/fray issues.
