If you want to make the 48 X 72 quilt as suggested by carolaug, you will need 216 squares cut 4 1/2 inches. That gives you 12 squares across and 18 squares down your quilt. That would be with no sashing and no borders, just the squares as the quilt. If you cut a 4/1/2 strip across the width of your fabric, you will need a total of 24 strips of fabric. You can get 9 squares from each width. Hope this helps.
